An unforgettable experience!

The Natural History Museum is amongst the most splendid of the buildings that line the Vienna Ringstrasse and houses one of the largest natural history collections in the world.
Founded 250 years ago by Franz Stephan von Lothringen, the collection has grown to over 25 million objects and forms the basis for natural sciences research at the Natural History Museum (NHM).

Dive into a diverse and beautiful world!

The historical architecture, with its timeless elegance, provides the ideal framework for a spectacle that is rich in tradition. Exhibits are spread over more than 8,000 square metres, against a backdrop of magnificent halls. Admire valuable minerals and gems including Maria Theresia’s unique bouquet of precious stones; giant dinosaur skeletons, primeval finds such as the 25,000-year-old Venus of Willendorf, rare fossils and even living animals in modern terraria and aquaria.

Be inspired by the world of natural science…

Are you interested in precious stones or minerals? Are you fascinated by dinosaurs? Or do you want to learn more about pre-historic times? We are happy to organise guided tours on specific topics for groups with special interests. The Natural History Museum was created by Gottfried Semper and Carl Hasenauer as a cathedral to the natural sciences. The building is a masterpiece of the neorenaissance and is also a feast for the eyes for those interested in art and architecture.

…and bewitched by the Natural History Museum Vienna!
